THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
When I wrote this song, I was in a place of contemplation because there was a person I really loved who was going to the hospital to take a test that would reveal a negative or positive result. I was fighting anxiety for them while dealing with my own insecurities. I wrestled with God through this song and found that being honest and vulnerable was where he wanted me at that moment. His message to me was that He sees me, He made me, He is in control, and He has always been there from the beginning. I will never forget that moment of relief when I got the call letting me know that the test was clear and that my loved one would be ok.
Another part of this song that I contemplated was how “religion was getting in the way.” During the time of this song I was serving in church and exhausting myself in service. I felt that the harder I worked the more obedient I was, and the more I followed rules, God would love me more. What I found was that I was already accepted, and simply needed to be still and in awe of God’s love and power. I am so prone to go and do, that pausing and being still was the only thing left to do. Maker’s Hand is a worship song I sing often when anxiety or worry come my way. Hope it allows others to do the same.
