THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

God wants to see our face in prayer and hear our voice in worship (Song of Solomon 2:14). He takes delight in us, our lives, and our love.

Because God is a God with emotion, and because He has set Himself in relationship with us through an unfailing covenant of love, then He yearns to feel and enjoy our worship and love.

About 10 years ago, I was pursuing my master’s degree at a very large university, so I had many long walks across campus. One day as I walked across campus silently worshipping, the Lord showed me that my worship was a column of incense that pierced through the clouds and hit His heart, filling His heart with joy. As those that God has made priests, our worship can be a sacrifice that brings pleasure to Jesus’s heart, and He can perceive and feel our love and worship.

Worship is many things - it can be a duty, something we do because it has been commanded. But there is also a higher reality, where we have the privilege of giving something to Jesus that He hasn’t experienced before, because He created us each uniquely and gave us each a unique relationship with Him.

God is most certainly not sick of your voice or your offering, no matter how small it is or how immature you may be (or feel). He longs to hear your voice and receive your love.
