You’ve probably heard the expression a ‘3-chord wonder’ - it relates to a song that only has 3 chords. Here is me wondering how my 2-chord song will be received. I actually once composed a song using just one chord but I shall spare your ears from everything I created during my Contemporary Music degree for now...unless anybody wants to hear some decimal music (frequencies all mathematically organised using a decimal system...sounded hideous to most people).

I began this song as a prayer to invite the Peace of God to fall on me. This peace which surpasses understanding can calm my heart and it can still my fears so He is most welcome. I then started to bring to mind other names and descriptions for the Holy Spirit - and twenty minutes later, I had the format of the song planned with four verses sketched out.

The Holy Spirit is our wonderful counsellor

The Holy Spirit is our healer

I wanted to use this song as a mediation, so the morning after I’d written it I took my ukulele along to a meeting I was having with a band I work with in Gloucestershire. I offered to share the song to kick off the meeting and guided everyone (all three of us) through a verse at a time, followed by a brief reflection and then some focussed prayer. I then shared the song a few weeks later at my church home group following the same structure to a warm response.

If we welcome the spirit of God into our hearts and minds, we cannot help but be changed. In order to embrace all the spirit brings, we have to let go of control
