THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

I’ve shared a few songs inspired from reading about worship in heaven and the River of Life from Revelation 21. I’m fascinated by the fact there is worship happening right now in heaven and eager to see if we can catch a glimpse here on the earth of what that is like.

When John had his revelation and experienced things other humans might only wish to dream, he found that there was a new song being sung. Revelation 5:9 and 14:3 highlight that a new song is being birthed. For most of my journey as a Christian, I have rightly or wrongly believed that the songs of heaven are the songs that we see in Revelation - the prescribed set-list. This may be in part due to Revelation 4:8 which states that the living creatures repeat the song ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty…’ day and night. However having pondered the idea that during John’s brief visit to the heavenly realm he heard and witnessed a new song, I am inclined to believe that new songs are perpetually occurring in heaven. I can fully imagine that fresh melodies and declarations of praise are being sung every minute of every day.

I believe God is looking for those ready to make a new sound. I believe the new sound is one that begins in the heart of the writers. The world looks at the talent and we can write people off in the way David was written off by his family when the prophet came looking for the next King in 1 Samuel 16:7. God looks at the heart and His eyes are scanning the whole world looking for those whose hearts are fully committed to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9).

For those of us wanting to create a new sound, make sure your heart is constantly being renewed, for in this place of renewal there will be a wellspring of courage and creativity that empowers us to tread into new territory thematically and sonically.

About The Artist

My journey in music began in 1996 after being invited to join the worship band at All Saints, Ecclesall in Sheffield. I only knew 3 chords at the time and soon learned I wouldn’t need to know too much more for most Sunday services. My friend Robin then showed me how to program a drumbeat on Cubase and I’ve been a certified music production addict for 21 years. As well…
