THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
I love the account in Exodus chapters 33 and 34 of how Moses talked with God face to face and was able to see his glory. As a result, whenever he left God’s presence and returned to the Israelites his face was shining. The time he spent with God brought about a very profound and tangible change.
Whenever I come before God I long for those face to face encounters - that closeness, that clarity, that fresh glimpse of all of God’s glory and goodness. And, like Moses, the more I see of God’s glory the more I reflect his glory and the more like him I become.
“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2Cor 3:18)
Every time we meet with God, whether in the quiet place on our own or as we gather together as a Church, our lives should be changed. There may not always be a visible glow from our faces, but there will be a discernible change - a bit more “ever-increasing glory.”
That’s the heart of this song: God have your way; let your glory transform our lives. Help us to embrace change; to reflect and live out the glory that we have seen in the secret place. We surrender to your transforming work in our lives.
