I wrote I’m Still Here quite a while ago. It is a song about God’s omnipresence in every single situation that we could ever face. Regardless of what we are going through, His word remains true: He will never leave us, nor will He forsake us (Deut 31:6). He will calm every storm and His presence gives us a reason to hope. He will never let us go and always assure us that no matter what our present circumstances are, they are subject to change.

I recently attended the Homegrown Worship songwriting retreat day and I have to say, I was thoroughly blessed. It was a day that refreshed my soul. I had been going through some personal struggles and felt like a failure. On that day, the Lord reminded me that He was right with me in the middle of a storm I was facing. There was nothing that was surprising to Him and He assured me that He would help me get through it. He reminded me of this song and I felt so encouraged.

When it came to production time, Aron, one of our phenomenally talented producers, messaged me and asked whether I would consider upping the tempo. I had written this as quite a slow, balade type of song. Me, being my usual adventurous self, told him to go for it. The day we recorded the song I felt like my heart was exploding with joy. I just saw God’s joy in assuring believers that, “Hey, I’m still here! Regardless of what you’re facing, just know that I’m right in the middle of it all and I’m on the case!” I knew that this song was going to fill believers with God’s joy and ultimately His strength so that they could keep going and not give up.
