This song was born out of my frustration with my own apathy, with the way I seemed to have plenty of free time but wasn’t making time to spend with God. God showed me the idols I was worshipping yet I was still struggling to tear myself away from them. I thought I was the only one, but in reality I think many of us go through times, or maybe even a lifetime of putting idols above God. I started to feel frustrated, guilty and hopeless at my apathy and sin.

I realised that fleeing from sin is a process that requires grace, discipline and Jesus; we can’t do this in our own strength.

‘Pursue my King’ was written as an honest conversation with God. It’s a song of repentance that brings me back to God, and a declaration that he is the king of my life and that I need him.
