THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
Father God, I am grateful for the love that You’ve displayed
That You held out hope when I was far away
You never gave up,
You never gave up,
You never gave up on me
This isn’t the first song that I’ve written around the story of The Lost Son.
I don’t think it will be the last either.
The Father never gives up on us. His love is consistent and patient. This song is written by a son looking back over his turbulent journey and expressing thankfulness to the Father for constant and enduring love.
The story is dramatic… so I used some non-diatonic chords.
The story is full of highs and lows… the melody reflects this with very a low and humble verse stepping up for a belting chorus.
We live in a world where it’s easy to give up and easy to lose hope. You could hardly blame the Father if he’s given up his son for lost. If we take our circumstances on face value, void of hope, we will be inclined to give up.
I’d like to encourage you to remember two things:
Firstly, there is a Father who never gives up hope in you. He welcomes you home no matter where you’ve been.
And to walk in His likeness, we need to hold on to hope with an enduring grip. Perhaps your son, your daughter or your dreams seem far away. Love is patient… it always hopes.
