THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
Psalm 42:8 - By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me - a prayer to the God of my life.
Psalm 32:7 - You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
Zephaniah 3:17 - the Lord rejoices over you with singing.
Are you a morning person or an evening person?
The good news is that God is both.
His mercies are new every single morning and he has something fresh for you to catch today.
Yesterday has gone and today is a brand new day. For many of us, it’s high time to leave the past behind and embrace the day which the Lord has made. Today is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of God; hear from heaven and to step out in His freedom.
For those of us in a season of darkness, however, I’d like to offer an encouragement.
The last thing that my wife and I do as part of our eldest daughter’s bedtime routine is to ‘put the stars on’. A beautiful little battery powered device projects colourful star shapes and plays music-box style lullabies before the lights and sounds fade away. It is soothing for her and after a busy day, she’ll often be fast asleep before the last note has sounded. If she wakes up crying or calling for us in the night for whatever reason, one of us (usually my wife if I’m being honest) will go into her room to check she’s ok. We will give her a cuddle, sometimes pray, and always put the stars back on for her.
Sometimes we need to call for God in our discomfort. He will (like my wife) come to us and though it may remain dark outside, we can always remember we have the stars to remind us that we’re safe in His hands, there are soothing sounds to tune into and morning will be here soon.
Songs of deliverance, anthems of freedom.
God, you’re singing over me, morning till evening.
