THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Hallelujah is a song I wrote at Easter, which focuses on the sacrifice Jesus made by leaving His heavenly throne to save us.

As I began to play the piano and sing worship one day, I started to reflect on the words Jesus said upon the cross: "Not my will but Yours be done". As I sang these words out, I received revelation that the sacrifice Jesus made was not just His earthly pain and suffering, but also the surrender of His heavenly glory, when He came into this world as a baby.

This drew me to a passage in Philippians 2:5-11, and I started to shape a song around it. The climax of the song both emphasises the eternal victory over sin and death, that Jesus has won for us, and also challenges us to lay our lives down in light of the price Jesus paid for us.
