Having written dozens of songs since the start of this year, I’ve spent a fair amount of time deliberating over what song I’d like to share as the first offering from Homegrown Worship. It’s been almost a decade since I shared a collection of my own creative work with people so I wanted to try and set the scene for what Homegrown Worship is all about. It’s taken a lot work and a lot of time to prepare myself to share new music but I am pleased to say that I finally feel ready…

Ready is a song about committing yourself hook, line and sinker to what you know God has planned for you. Journeying through the Gospels afresh at the start of this year, I was struck by the repeated call Jesus made for people to follow him, and in many ways this song is my personal response to to this call alongside a declaration that I want to give myself to God completely rather than compartmentally. To some extent there is a renewing of vows to commit my heart and soul whilst affirming the belief that God will protect me and provide for me as I step forward in faith. The decision to follow Jesus is an active decision… you have to keep on following

This song was the first song we recorded in the studio for our Homegrown Worship sessions. As with most of my recent songs; I wrote this in my living room on the ukulele and it’s very rewarding to hear simple songs spring to life with strong arrangements.
