Our relationship with God involves a good amount of mystery. The Word tells us that “it is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out” (Proverbs 25:2).

One of the questions I often find myself searching out is, “How does God give me a part to play when He is in control of everything?”.

We have been made co-heirs with Christ. We, as the church, are called into a mystical union with Jesus. He loves us with His love, and we love Him back with that very same love. He ignites the flame within us, but we keep fanning the flame.

We’re given a love that we are entrusted to steward, even as He shepherds our hearts and develops our love. God is love Himself, and He would be even if we didn’t exist, but He has invited us into a union where we receive and exchange love in covenant relationship.

And even so, we’re overshadowed by His love, as He is the author. We’re his poetry, that which He has made. His voice created the world and our very flesh. Therefore, we are the very words of God come to life.

And because we are alive, His word reverberates in us and we create with Him. Because we are created by love, we co-create love. That’s what we were made for.
