Trees. Not something you'd expect to hold a lot of meaning in a story. I suppose the great thing is that the Bible is not just your average story, and if you pick at it and dive into it, you will never reach the end.

I was just beginning to pay attention to the literary genius of the Bible and was challenged to look into the significance of trees throughout. I began to notice this storyline developing as God's redemptive story seemed to find these mountain top moments with these trees.

Adam and Eve choosing between them, Noah saved in a boat made of them, Abraham resting beside them, Moses coming across a burning one, and Jesus giving up His life on one. It seemed there was a heavy decision made at each to either trust in man's wisdom and strength or the Lord's.

This was a potent message for me. Was I trying to lead myself out of my Egypt and clean up my life, or was I letting Jesus do that for me? My life is similar to the Bible. Every day I am faced with a number of trees in the form of work, family, relationships, ministry, and me. What will I decide in those moments? What will you decide in your moments?

Will you choose the Lord's way or your own?
