THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
How do you keep going in the face of steep opposition? And how do you do it in confidence?
The song victory was inspired by a friend at a church community gathering. She had been talking about a dire situation with a dear friend who was on chemotherapy with a poor prognosis. This friend had young children and wasn’t a Christian. You could see how emotionally burdened she was. So we started praying for all of the different prayer points that had been raised. When it was her turn to pray, she started by saying- ‘we stand in the place of victory’.
I found this striking for a couple of reasons. Perspective is everything. She was the situation she was faced with, but she also still saw and held on to the finished work of the cross. Also, she didn’t only see it, she verbalised it, and took on the posture of unshakeable faith in the goodness of God. Sometimes that’s all you can do, believe that through all of the heartbreak that you see around you, God is still sovereign and working out his plan for you. This song talks about that posture, your self talk, your declarations of faith that will keep you grounded in God through difficulties.
I’d like to invite you to listen to the song and as you do, I hope you see the declarations as your own statements of faith. I hope it encourages you to stand strong. Verse 2 hints at putting on the whole armour of God so you can stand. I hope it builds your faith so regardless of what life brings your way, you stay standing firmly, with God’s word in your mouth, through it all.
