THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

The third single to be released from Waking Up The Parishioners - Homegrown Worship’s debut live album - is a heartfelt cry of worship and future classic in the making.

Written by and featuring Homegrown Worship’s Chief Enthusiast, Andy Baker, ‘Every Ounce’, draws inspiration from the Biblical account of a woman pouring out a very expensive jar of perfume on Jesus to prepare Him for His burial - a year’s worth of wages in today’s money.

Committing to releasing a brand new song every week - born from Andy’s daily devotional routine - ‘Every Ounce’ is a reflective song that both documents this ancient story and the personal narrative of Homegrown Worship.

The live album version showcases the broad appeal this simple song will have for churches everywhere, as befitting for large Sunday congregations as much as it is for indiginous house churches in remote parts of the world.

The song is a stake in the ground for Homegrown Worship: an achievement, and possibly the most apt song for the church community in this season; with simplicity and sacrifice, we are here to do one thing: worship Jesus, giving our all and pouring out every ounce.

My Homegrown Worship journey has helped me to realise the importance of being like Mary.

Spending time with Jesus each day is the best thing to do. Doing things for Him is great but knowing Him is much better. Helping the poor is something we should be doing as well, but we mustn’t neglect Him because we are ‘doing His work’. Jesus loves it when we spend time in His presence and He is inviting us to not feel guilty about it.

Mary’s act of worship was costly. She didn’t give from an abundance of wealth; she gave everything she had due to the relationship she had with her Saviour.

This song flowed out of a wonderfully delivered sermon and a realisation that Jesus is wanting to make a Mary out of me.

For a long time, I’ve placed my identity in playing Martha; keeping busy doing things.

It’s been such a joy to share this song with people already and to see how it’s helping people to draw closer to their Saviour

About The Artist

My journey in music began in 1996 after being invited to join the worship band at All Saints, Ecclesall in Sheffield. I only knew 3 chords at the time and soon learned I wouldn’t need to know too much more for most Sunday services. My friend Robin then showed me how to program a drumbeat on Cubase and I’ve been a certified music production addict for 21 years. As well…
