THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Have you ever tried surfing the scriptures?

The premise is pretty simple - you open the Bible and sing outlines one at a time. Some people may have heard about Graham Kendrick’s Psalm surfing events and I’d highly recommend popping along to one if you ever see them advertised.

Sons of God is a few nuggets of theology married to an infectious beat and a few made up phonemes. It might not win any awards for poetic finesse but my eldest daughter went crazy (in a good way) when she heard it as it’s a far cry from many of the other ‘sad and relaxing’ songs I record (her definition). If you haven’t yet danced in your living room with your children, I would highly recommend that.

A friend of mine used to often say that if something is true, you should say it again. I have put this into practice with this arrangement. The beginning of the song exclaimed that ‘the righteous live by faith, it’s not what we do that determines our worth’. As a Son of God, you are not given privileges based on your performance, the good stuff is shared with you because you’re part of the family. For years I’ve tried to earn God’s approval by doing more however it did nothing for my sense of self-worth.
Realising that The Father loves me as a child makes me feel incredibly special. If you’re struggling to feel part of His family, I’d encourage you to take a step of faith and sing this song every day for a week - you will have picked it up before you’ve got to the end of the song and feel all the better for it

Galatians 3

26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

About The Artist

My journey in music began in 1996 after being invited to join the worship band at All Saints, Ecclesall in Sheffield. I only knew 3 chords at the time and soon learned I wouldn’t need to know too much more for most Sunday services. My friend Robin then showed me how to program a drumbeat on Cubase and I’ve been a certified music production addict for 21 years. As well…
