THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

This song focuses on how we can trust God in times of overwhelm and distress. It is inspired by the words of Isaiah, particularly Isaiah 43:2 (NLT) –

‘When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.’

The chorus begins with imagery of fire, of chaos and of danger, but God turns those ashes into something beautiful. Along with the scripture above, this is also inspired by Isaiah 61:3 (NLT) –

‘To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.’

The protagonist is depicted as world-weary and burdened with stress, but amongst the noise, they find God’s voice. The dawn of surrender is that moment they give their struggles to God and let Him take control. It’s a story of trusting God in the tough times and in the waiting, and finding His beauty and peace there.

I hope this song helps you find hope, however you feel at the moment, and that it helps you meet with Jesus today.
